I have now taken delivery of my “learning to fly” drone, the Hubsan X4 H107C, and whilst I was going to do an unboxing video, I have decided against it. Take a look at Youtube and you will find hundreds of Hubsan H107C unboxing videos and me spending time and effort putting up another one isn’t going to add anything at all.
Rather than create yet another H107C unboxing video I thought I would post up a few photos, as shown in the slideshow below, and give my initial thoughts and opinions before setting it up and taking it out for a test flight.
The Hubsan H107C is minute. I knew it was going to be small however I didn’t realise it was going to be as small as it is, and at first glance I am struggling to see how you can fly a drone of this size outdoors. Surely the slightest breeze is going to blow it all over the place? I guess this is something I am going to find out when I fly it.
The build quality isn’t brilliant, but then given the low cost of the X4 H107C this is to be expected. Looking at this drone, and feeling it in the flesh I can say that it feels and looks sturdier than I was thought it would, especially considering its size. I appreciate I keep banging on about the size of this drone, it’s just that I can’t get over how small it is. I have read reports that the Hubsan H107C is a resilient drone that can take a lot of knocks, scrapes, crashes and the like and suffer minimal damage. I hope the reports I read are accurate because I know I am going to be crashing this drone, and probably quite a lot.
I think the Hubsan H107C is a cool looking drone however the colour scheme is pretty naff and makes it look like a child’s toy. Okay, the H107C drone is a toy, but it’s a “Big kid’s toy” and the garish colour scheme doesn’t reflect this. It’s a bit of a shame, but it’s not too big of an issue and definitely not a deal breaker for me.
Overall the Hubsan X4 H107C drone is pretty much what I was expecting, and for the cost of less than thirty quid, I am satisfied with the purchase. As long as this drone works and I get at least a few hours flying time out of it I will be happy.
