I needed a cheap and cheerful drone without the technology, bells and whistles of the expensive drones so I could learn how to properly fly and control a drone. After much research and cruising the internet it became clear that the natural choice was the Hubsan X4 H107 drone.
There are currently five models in the Hubsan X4 H107 line-up, and these include the:-
All of the models are based around the same drone, but there are obviously differences between them. For details on each of the models take a look at. The best Hubsan X4 H107 drone for my needs was the X4 H107C, and this is what I ended up buying.
I didn’t want an H107 for aerial photography or taking stills photos but I still wanted a video camera. Because of this the Hubsan X4 H107L was not for me, even though I wanted to spend as little as possible.
FPV would be nice to have, but I am not overly bothered about this, and since I want to spend as little as possible I am not prepared to spend a lot more money for FPV. Because of this the Hubsan X4 H107D or H107D+ is not drone for me. The H107L, H107D and the H107D+ are not suitable for my needs therefore that left the H107C and the H107C+ to choose between.
The H107C+ is the new and improved version of the H107C, and has a better camera and also newer technology built in, including altitude hold. Altitude hold is useful, however I want a manual drone which requires as much input from me as possible.
I want to capture video footage of all flights so I can keep tabs on whether I am improving or not. If I record every flight I can review the footage after the event and see if the footage gets any smoother or more stable. The H107C doesn’t have a gimbal so I know that when the footage becomes smoother and more stable the same is happening to the drone in flight, and I am improving.
Even though the video footage is for my own purposes I want the best possible image quality so I decided to buy the H107C with the 2MP camera rather than the 0.3MP camera. The 2MP version is more expensive but the additional cost is negligible and it was worth paying a tiny bit extra for the better image quality.
Out of all of the H107 drones available the H107C was the best compromise between price and features, and seems a bit of a bargain.
