The following photo gallery consists of images taken during a day out to Venice. Before travelling to Venice I consulted various photography and travel forums to see what would be the best lens to take, and after a bit of reading around I found several forum posts about photographing Venice and the problems with pickpockets and muggers relieving tourists of their expensive photography equipment. I was obviously concerned about this and rather than worrying about my gear, leaving in its bag for fear of it being pinched and not taking any photos I thought I would buy a cheaper compact camera that was more discreet and less likely to spark anyone’s interest.
After even more research, plus a visit to a local camera shop to try out a few models and take some test shots I decided the Canon G1X was the camera for me. I shoot Canon dslr cameras, and always have, therefore I know the Canon user interface and menus, I know the Canon quirks and I know the Canon quality. Despite there being similar choices the Canon G1X was the obvious choice.
The Canon G1X is a top quality compact camera and the image quality is superb. Even though I knew the G1X was good I was sceptical about the image quality of it, and all compact cameras for that matter, because my last compact camera was pretty poor in comparison to my dslr. The point I am trying to make is that technology has come a long way and the modern day high end compact cameras are exceptionally good and has entry level dslr image quality in a small, light and discreet camera body. That’s enough on my ramblings, now on to the photos – enjoy!
