CANON V NIKON - THE BOTTOM LINE

9/12/2016

The Canon V Nikon battle is one which has been going on or a number of years now, and I have to admit that it is getting tiresome and pretty boring. The Canon v Nikon battle is one that will never be settled and one that will never be won. And the reason for this? Both Canon and Nikon are just as good as each other, and neither is better, or worse, than the other.

The bottom line is both Canon and Nikon photography is exceptionally good, and both of them are photographic gear used by professional photographers, and there is no clear cut winner. By this, I mean professional photographers don’t rate one higher than the other.

For what it’s worth, I shoot Canon and always have. When I went to buy my first dslr camera I went with an open mind and looked at all entry level and budget dslr cameras. During my search I held all the cameras, I had a play with all the cameras and I took test shots with all the cameras. In the end I chose the Canon 450d. My decision to choose to buy a Canon 450d wasn’t because it had superior image quality. It wasn’t because the Canon 450d had superior build quality. And it wasn’t because the Canon 450d was the cheapest. The reason I chose the Canon 450d was because it was comfortable to hold and I preferred the menu system and user interface compared to the other budget dslr cameras I was looking at.

Consequently, my wife who was with me when I went to look at the budget dslr cameras didn’t “get” Canon’s interface or menu system and preferred the Nikon D3100, even though she didn’t buy one. The point I am trying to get across here is that both Canon and Nikon are as good as each other, and when it comes to build quality, image quality and range of accessories neither one is better than the other. Just because you shoot a Canon it doesn’t mean your photos will be better than a photographer with the same abilities as you that shoots a Nikon. Ditto if you shoot a Nikon and the other photographer shoots Canon.

Regardless of whether you go down the Canon or Nikon route you have exactly the same chance of capturing stunning photos, as well as dud photos too.
