I can see how a post about an electric bike in a photography blog may seem out of place and a little strange, but if you bear with me for a sec all will become clear. The bottom line is I bought the Wisper 905 Torque specifically for photography. Living out in the countryside there are many single track roads and when I drive along them there are many times I see a stunning landscape and think “what a great photo that would make”. There are loads of photo opportunities along the country roads where I live, and not just landscape either - there is an abundance of wildlife, flowers and insects as well. I always have a camera with me yet despite this I can never take advantage of the photo opportunities on these small country roads even though I have tried on several occasions. The roads around where I live are (obviously) used by the locals and I do have to deal with traffic when driving along them, which means pulling in to passing places (where they are available) but more often than not ramping it up the verge so oncoming cars can pass. To give you some idea of just how narrow the roads are the oncoming cars also have to take to the verge! Stopping the car to set up the tripod and take a landscape shot would mean blocking the road for both oncoming cars as well as the traffic behind me, which isn’t safe, isn’t fair and basically isn’t going to happen. I have attempted to stop on several occasions to take some quick hand held shots but the abuse I received was unbelievable. Carrying photography gear on a bicycle obviously requires some kind of luggage carrying system not to mention a pair of strong legs, which I don’t really have. I don’t have the time (or inclination) to go to the gym every day to get my fitness to a level where I can carry around several kilos of photography equipment on a push bike so an electric bike seemed like a good idea. With an electric bike I can take to the small country roads and whenever I see a photo opportunity I can stop, get the bike of the road and out of the way of the traffic and take the shot. My Wisper electric bike has a luggage rack that will carry 25 kilos of equipment, which is more than enough for the tripod, filter holder, filters, remote shutter release, lens accessories, spare batteries etc. and the electric motor makes carrying all my gear easy. I do have to put a bit of effort in when it comes to riding the electric bike, it isn’t an electric moped after all, but it isn’t that strenuous – unless I decide to really “push it” that is. Here’s a short clip on my new bit of photography equipment, my Wisper 905 Torque that be be of interest to you. An electric bike is a great ‘vehicle’ for photography and I plan to use it not only out in the countryside on the narrow roads and lanes (as well as places I can’t get to with a car) but also for city/street photography where getting around in a car is pretty much impossible. I bought my Wisper 905 Torque from Halfords
